Bridgetown, Barbados

Food

Very little is cheap in Barbados, including food, so it pays to shop around if you’re catering for yourself. Obviously, supermarkets are the most convenient way to shop. Massey supermarkets, with stores at Warren’s (the biggest) and Holetown (the most modern), are the best stocked. Long-term visitors to the island should also consider membership shopping and wholesale buying at Pricesmart, where the drinks section is particularly good value.

For better quality and more fairly priced local fruit and vegetables (and even some imported items) swing by one of the roadside stalls sprinkled round the island. Plus, you’ll be helping to support local producers. In central Bridgetown, try Cheapside Market (by the Princess Alice Bus Terminal).
