Island Lake Lodge

Catskiing lodge ($$$) in winter, hiking retreat in summer.

Upscale lodge and catskiing operation with a huge amount of astounding terrain, including an abundance of steep chutes and natural half pipes, a favorite with boarders. Three-day packages here start at $2,189.

In summer the lodge offers Bed and Breakfast accommodation from $200 and has an expensive restaurant (daily 11am–10pm) with a lovely outdoor deck and top-quality regional food – think foie gras and game.

The lodge overlooks a placid little lake – for which it rents out canoes ($15/hr or $30/half-day). Otherwise hiking is the main pastime here and a range of trails for every level of ability and inclination radiate from the lodge. The staff will happily advise.
