Fernie Wilderness Adventures are the main local competitor to Island Lake Lodge‘s Cat-Skiing operation, but offer a less expensive and rougher-edged experience. Their lodge is remoter and far simpler.
Its terrain is also a little different – a little less extreme perhaps, but with the benefits that virtually all of it is skiable virtually all of the time. The snow cats will haul you to 7000ft, so the first 2000ft of skiing is on snow that rarely sees any rain. All this makes this the place to be when conditions at Fernie Alpine Resort (and the adjacent Island Lake Lodge) are marginal.
The catskiing trips are ideal for strong intermediate skiers and boarders and better, to whom the company guarantees 10000ft of vertical, or around ten runs every day.
