Tipping

Pointers on how to tip in Australia

Tip Jar

Tipping in Australia is discretionary and by no means obligatory.

Restaurants & cafes

Consider tipping 10% of the total bill in restaurants with good service. A couple of dollars will suffice if tipping at a casual cafe.

Bars

Tipping bartenders is not common.

Taxis

Taxis are expensive in Australia. If you feel like tipping, simply round up the fare to the nearest whole dollar.

Hotels

Tipping is not expected at hotels. If you do want to tip the hotel housekeeper, $1 to $5 is acceptable, depending on the exclusivity of the property.
