Food & Drink
For a small city, York boasts a large and increasing number of places to cater for the food needs its many visitors. Some establishments are parts of large chains, some small and one-off, some ethnic.
Some thoughts to bear in mind when looking for a place to eat:
• Remember that most cafés serve meals, too.
• Many Pubs have something for almost every taste and budget. Not all pubs serve meals, but those with restaurants may offer not just snacks but standard fare such as roasts, various combinations with chips, or dishes such as lasagne. Many establishments may serve lunches, but not evening meals. Look out for special themed evenings, such as curry evenings.
• For alfresco eating, in the Shops & Shopping section Food Shops suggests some local specialists selling quality food to go, such as delicatessens, or a hidden ice cream parlour, for example.
