Honey-fried buñuelos were a popular dessert amongst Moorish community that inhabited the south of Spain from the seventh century and they have remained a part of Spanish gastronomy ever since.
More recently they have become associated with religious holidays such as Lent and All Saints’ Day, they can be filled with anything from cream and chocolate to dried figs and pumpkin.
One of the most popular recipes is for buñuelos de viento whose ingredients include flour, eggs, butter, sugar, olive oil and lemon peel.
