Vermut
Vermouth
Vermut is fortified wine flavoured with aromatic herbs, flowers, roots and spices and although the Italians have the most famous brands, Spain is a major producer too.
”Tomando un vermut” (”having a vermouth”) is a popular pre-lunch ritual for many Spaniards, more about meeting friends and having a chat than drinking. Most ask for “un vermut de grifo” which is served from a tap rather than the bottle and the rest is up to personal preference.
Some prefer it with a bit of carbonated water to add some fizz, others prefer it with nothing more than a slice of lemon and plenty of ice.
