Bogavante

European lobster

Bogavante

This dark blue lobster is rarer than its red American counterpart, but its meat is more flavoursome and it is rightly one of the star attractions of Spanish seafood, particularly in Galicia.

Solitary and aggressive, lobsters can live up to 50 years as they patrol the rocky depths to the north and west of Spain. Arroz de bogavante is a favourite while lobster cassaroles are also popular.
