Dentelles de Montmirail

Lacy hills of Provence

The curiously named Dentelles de Montmirail in the Comtat Venaissin, are a small chain of mountains. Their peaks resemble lacework hence their unusual.name. (Dentelle means lace in French).

Jurassic Park?

Not very high, they are the foothills of Mont Ventoux and very striking when the sun catches the Jurassic limestone of the rocky peaks. In late Spring the hillsides are covered in broom and attract painters and walkers alike. As scenic as they are, they serve a useful purpose as they shield local vineyards from the dreaded Mistral wind.

Côtes du Rhône

The nearby wine villages of Séguret and Vacqueyras are well worth visiting too. Both are included in my Côtes du Rhône wine itinerary.
