Choquecancha
With Kind Human Travel

Choquecancha is a beautiful village on the road from Lares north towards the rainforest. It’s a typical Andean town with adobe homes, a small plaza that has their health clinic and school, and beautiful textile art. The talented weavers of Choquecancha raise sheep and alpacas, shear the wool, spin the yarn, dye it with local plants and minerals, then weave it into beautiful artwork.
They’re new to tourism and currently the only way to stay there is with Kind Human Travel. If you have your own car, you can get there by driving down the valley from Lares.
Choquecancha is at 3,225m/10,580ft above sea level, which is lower than Cusco. So if you’re acclimated to Cusco you won’t have any trouble with the altitude. For information about acclimating, read my advice for altitude.
