Fair Trade & Ethical Shops

A growing market

handspun yarn

The Fair Trade label is difficult to get, but there are many shops in Peru that sell products that promote the independence and welfare of artisans, even if the label looks different. Most artisans are happy to talk about who made the painting, clothes or home decor that you’re perusing.

Some of my favorites in Cusco are HJK (which sells handknit alpaca), Xapiri (which sells art from the Peruvian Amazon), and Mantay, whose shop supports a home for orphans and teenage mothers.
