Tipping

Standard for all tourist services

Peru coins

Tipping is standard in the Peruvian tourism industry, but not for other industries. All guides, whether for treks or for an hour in a museum, should be tipped. The kind of restaurants that cater to tourists and accept credit cards expect a 10% tip. Local restaurants that cater to Peruvians and accept only cash do not expect tips, but if you have excellent service, you should leave s/2 to s/5 PEN as a tip.

Tipping guides

Tips for guides are much more complicated. A museum guide that you spend an hour with should receive s/5 to s/10, depending on their services. A guide treks with you for four or five days and gives you tours of archeological sites should be tipped $10 to $20 USD per day.
