Avalanche Peak

1100m ascent for glorious views (6-8hrs)

New Zealand: Hiking up Avalanche Peak

The most popular climb in Arthur's Pass National Park, this is one for the fit, experienced and well-prepared. You’ll be climbing from near the train station and Visitor Centre at 737m up to the summit at 1833m, so there’s 1100 vertical metres of ascent (followed by descent!) for the day.

The views will be amazing in good weather conditions, but you don’t want to be out there in poor weather. Do your homework accordingly.

There are two tracks. Use the Avalanche Peak track for going up, the Scotts Track for coming down.
