Castlepoint

Coastal short walks in Wairarapa (30min–1.5hr)

Castle Point

About an hour’s drive east of Masterton will bring you to what may seem like the end of the world, Castlepoint. In bad weather this may seem like an entryway to hell, but if the sun is out and the wind isn’t blowing, this is one gorgeous, extremely remote place.

Walks begin at the roadend carpark and you’re likely to see birds and marine mammals.

The Lighthouse Walk involves following the boardwalk over the reef and past the lighthouse and will take about 30 minutes (return). Great views of Castle Point and the Wairarapa east coast.

The Deliverance Cove Track takes 1.5hrs return to gorgeous Deliverance Cove.
