Turangi Fishing

Big, big trout!

Welcome to Turangi

Pretty cool when you can call yourself “the trout fishing capital of the world”, and Turangi, at the southern end of Lake Taupo, claims just that.

As a town, Turangi got a leg up with the development of the Tongariro Hydro Power Station in the 1960s, but these days, the hype is about what fishermen are pulling out of the water.

You’ll need a licence to go trout fishing. For recommended guides and fishing tour operators, see Love Taupo.

Turangi has stacks of accommodation options and is all set up for visiting fishermen who turn up from all over the globe.
