Waiheke Island Wine

World-renowned wine destination

R0005027_DxO

Waiheke’s warm, dry maritime micro-climate is said to “promote intensity, varietal depth, and purity of fruit”. Long renowned for its Cabernet blends, the Island has more recently been applauded for its Syrah, Chardonnay, fruit-filled Montepulciano and Petit Verdot, and fragrant Viognier and Pinot Gris wines.

Wineries

There are plenty of wineries to visit, most with cellar doors open year-round. Our picks are:

  • Stonyridge - 80 Onetangi Road - Waiheke’s best known winery has an atmospheric cafe on site.

  • Man O' War Vineyards - 725 Man O’ War Bay Rd - Waiheke’s only beachfront tasting room.

  • Cable Bay Vineyards - 12 Nick Johnstone Drive, Oneroa - award-winning wines at the cellar door, exquisite sharing-style cuisine in The Bistro.
