Mt Ruapehu Ski Resorts

North Island's top winter sports destinations

Mt Ruapehu & Mt Tongariro

Mt Ruapehu is the North Island’s top ski spot, with two linked skifields that are operated by the same company and covered by the one ski pass.

Whakapapa is on the volcanoes northwestern flanks and is best approached from National Park or Turangi.

Turoa is on the mountain’s sothwestern flank and best accessed from the small town of Ohakune.

The only accommodation on the slopes is private ski-clubs and visiting skiers usually stay off-mountain and either drive or bus up for the day.

The season generally runs from June to October and as Mt Ruapehu is an exposed volcano, weather conditions can be extremely changeable. Be adequately prepared. All facilities are up there, including restaurants, lessons and gear hire.
