Nelson Lakes National Park

Walk the Mt Robert Circuit (4-5hrs)

Nelson Lakes National Park XII

At the northern end of the Southern Alps, Nelson Lakes NP wraps around Lake Rotoiti (small lake) and Lake Rotoroa (big lake), and is known for its beech forest, birdlife and trout fishing.

Mt Robert Circuit

Drop in to the Visitor Centre in St Arnaud for weather and trail updates before taking on the 4-5hr Mount Robert Circuit that can be walked in either direction from the carpark at the end of Mt Robert Rd, 2km west of St Arnaud village. It’s a 9km track involving a hefty climb up to a high ridge with glorious views, but is not easy and should not be undertaken in poor weather conditions.
