Hobbit Hole -- Hobbiton Movie Set, Matamata, New Zealand 2016

Film Director Peter Jackson put New Zealand’s majestic scenery front and centre on world cinema screens with his adaptions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Enthusiastic fans flock to movie set Hobbiton, near Matamata, 2.5hrs south of Auckland, while others head to Weta Cave in Wellington, where special effects for the series came to life. Nomad Safaris in Queenstown run popular tours of filming locations in the Southern Lakes region.
