Skiing & Snowboarding

Carving through the fresh powder at Loon Mountain

Skiing and snowboarding are popular winter activities in New England. The mountains aren’t as tall as the ones out west, and the fewer powder days can mean, in the words of one skier, that “the conditions make you a better skier.”

The trails tilt towards the easier side, but there are tough ones at most hills. Glade skiing is also popular.

Overall, the accessible size of the hills makes them ideal for family sking.

Vermont

Stowe: Stowe is the fanciest mountain in New England, from its restaurants to places to stay. The village is fairly small so the best place to get food is on the road leading up to the mountain.

Sugarbush: Laid back hippie vibes make for a great family friendly resort.

Killington: Best known as the Beast of the East, Killington is a huge mountain with good snow. The trails are challenging and it offers some of the earliest and latest skiing and snowboarding because of the size of the mountain.
