Clam Chowder

Creamy or clear

Clam Chowder

Some clam chowder is so thick, it’s hard to imagine getting past the first spoonful. But that slightly sweet cream, those meaty clams, those savory vegetables... it’s also hard to stop.

Sprinkle a few oyster crackers on top to add just the right crunchy texture and it’s clear this dish is perfect for New England winters.

While most of New England goes for the creamy kind, the other local variation from Rhode Island has a clear broth, while the rival chowder from New York uses a tomato based one.

Sometimes clam chowder is served in a sourdough bread bowl, but it is just as tasty in a regular bowl.

Everyone has a favorite place for clam chowder. Here are some popular choices.
