White Horse Tavern, Newport
America’s oldest (l,d; $$$)

The first restaurant in America was opened in the 1600s. Colonists, sailors, and pirates gathered to eat. It even has its own ghost, a guest died in his sleep in the 1720s.
Today, classic Colonial structure with red clapboards, leaded glass windows, and low timbered ceilings compliment a fine dining experience featuring local, seasonal ingredients.
Try the New England clam chowder or the oysters for local flavors.
