Passports & visas

Passports and visas may be required to enter the United States, depending on your country or origin. Unless your country has an exemption, it is necessary to have a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry to enter the US. Info about visas can be found at travel.state.gov/us-visas.

Time zone / Daylight Savings Time

New England’s time zone is Eastern Time, which is UTC-5 during Standard time and UTC-4 during Daylight Savings Time (from March to November). It is in the same time zone as New York.

Electricity

The US uses a 120 volt system at a frequency of 60 Hz. Outlets employ a two flat parallel pin (type A) or a two flat parallel pin and a grounding pin (type B). Travel adapters are needed for places that use different plug types or use 220-240 volts (Europe, Asia). Canada, Mexico, and Japan do not need adapters.
