Lazama Synagogue

The Mellah's most interesting synagogue - كنيس صلاة الزامة

Lazama Jewish Synagogue - Mellah - Hay Essalam - Marrakech, Morocco

The Lazama Synagogue (or Salat el-Azama) is the only synagogue in the Mellah that's open to the public.

Like other Mellah synagogues, the Lazama was also a private house, with just one part used for prayers. Today you can pop in to see the (largely modern) prayer hall and admire the blue and white zellij (tilework) with its Star of David motif.

To find the Lazama, follow Trik Amlak Mkhaznia east from Place des Ferblantiers, and after its first bend to the right, take the first street on the right (Derb L’Azen Nissim aka Derb Ragraga), through a doorway next to house #33 with a “Dar Beija” sign above it. The synagogue is 100m down on the left.
