Mt Mitake 御岳山

Day trip hiking west of Tokyo

View from Mt. Mitake

In the Oku-tama region of western Tōkyō prefecture, Mitake-san is less than 2 hours from central Tōkyō, making it a popular escape from the city.

Here you’ll find an extensive network of lovely hiking trails, the Mitake Tozan Railway to take out much of the climb, plus the Musashi-Mitake Shrine on the summit (929m).

There are also a number of minshuku should you want to overnight here.
