Posey & Vanderburgh Counties

Tucked away in Southwest Michigan, Posey County is where the Wabash and Ohio rivers meet. A place of not only recent history including what might be considered one of America’s oldest communes—New Harmony but also prehistoric times. It’s largest city is Mount Vernon, located on the Ohio River.

So much is owed to Jane Owen, whose husband was related to the original founders of New Harmony, designed to be a place for scientific thinking. Owen, restored and preserved New Harmony’s history. She also brought in world class artists, architects and spiritual leaders to create sacred spaces such as the labyrinth and outstanding architecture. A supporter of the arts, she also built the Red Geranium, a gourmet restaurant as well as the Harmonist inspired New Harmony Inn and Resort.

Vandenburg County borders the Ohio River and offers plenty to do from family fun like Meskers Zoo and Botanic Garden with such amenities as the Rainbow Grill and the Louis J. Koch Family Children's Museum of Evansville to adult play at the Tropicana Casino and Le Merigot.
