St-Léon-sur-Vézère

A Plus Beau Village on the Vézère

Situated on a meander of the Vézère just to the south west of the Château de Losse this picturesque village in the Black Périgord boasts two castles and a splendid Romanesque church once part of a Benedictine priory dating from the 12th Century.

On the riverbank can be found the 15th century Château de Clérans built as a palace but a much more military structure, the Château de la Salle, can be found in the village which while very small, has a rugged 14th Century keep.

Not surprisingly, St-Léon has been classified as a Plus Beau Village complete with the honey coloured stone of its old houses and lauzes rooves so typical of the Périgord.
