Uliks, Pula
Café with a James Joyce connection (am & pm;€)
Named Uliks (Ulyssses) in honour of James Joyce, who once taught English in this very building, this cafe is something of a temple to pre-World War I Pula, with a display of antique trinkets, and pictures of the Austro-Hungarian warships that used to be moored in the harbour.
There’s a statue of the great Irishman on the terrace, and a great view of the Roman-era Arch of the Sergians, which looms up a few metres away.
