Murter
Easygoing & accessible island
Linked to the mainland by bridge, the island of Murter is both easy to get to and a relaxing escape from the more resort-oriented mainland.
Murter Town
Main town Murter is an archetypal fishing port in which every house appears to have a boat-shed and a personal pier. It is also the main starting point for excursions to the Kornati islands which lie just northwest. Jazina beach, just west of Murter, offers shallow waters, a sandy sea floor and a couple of lively cafés – although it can get crowded in season.
Betina
Rubbing against Murter Town to the east is Betina, a traditional boat-building centre whose Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding offers an absorbing introduction to the construction techniques still practiced by local constructors.
Tisno
The quaint port of Tisno, straddling both sides of the channel that separates Murter from the mainland, is a great place for aimless seaside strolling. A bay outside Tisno has since 2012 hosted the DJ festivals of the Garden organization which look set to continue following a pandemic-inspired hiatus.
Murter’s tourist information office is on the central Trg Rudina in Murter Town (this entry’s map location).
By car: Murter is connected by road bridge to the mainland at Tisno. The bridge is raised twice a day to allow boats through the channel.
By bus: There are regular buses to Murter Town from Šibenik bus station (50min), calling at Tisno and Betina on the way.
