Croatia’s train network run by state concern Croatian Railways Hrvatske željeznice has a useful network of routes in central and eastern Croatia but is more limited on the Adriatic coast.

There are main lines from Zagreb to Rijeka and Zagreb to Split (with a connection to Šibenik), and a slow but picturesque route through the Istria peninsula to Pula. However there are no train routes running up and down the coast.

Zagreb is the main hub for international trains arriving from western and Central Europe. Direct overnight trains run from Prague and Vienna to Split in summer.
