Another Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB), the Wye Valley is defined by gorges with limestone cliffs, softly rounded hills rolling hills and ancient woodland.
The village of Symonds Yat is a favourite destination for drives as well as for kayaking, walking, cycling and family adventures.
The Lower Wye Valley is home to the graceful remains of Tintern Abbey, a lovely drive destination.
The major town is the Ross-on-Wye with a red sandstone market house and locally owned shops. Tours down the river began here in 1745, leading Ross to claim the title of the birthplace of British Tourism.
