Aston Hall
Haunting history
In Birmingham's historic Aston (home of the Aston Villa football club), Aston Hall features a Long Gallery and interiors dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries. It’s said to be haunted by more than one ghost and is on the UK's most haunted list which also includes Warwick Castle.
Built in the Jacobean style by Thomas Holte, Aston hall was designed by John Thorpe and completed in 1635. Holte was very rich and a friend of King Charles l, who stayed at Aston before the Battle of Edgehill. Parliamentarian forces laid siege to the Hall when they found out the King had stayed there. The Astonish Gallery in the restored Stables Range describes the history of Aston and its industries.
