Gas Street Basin

Shopping & dining in a former canal transport hub

Gas Street Basin, Birmingham

The central Gas Street Basin is the meeting place of narrowboats arriving along two major canal systems, once the epicentre of canal transport dating from the Industrial Revolution.

The area is great for wandering, walking and cycling with plenty of pubs, bars, cafes and shops. The Canal House and the Tap & Spile pubs are just two overlooking the canals.

The canals are now used for leisure and restored industrial canal-side precincts include the tree-lined squares of Brindleyplace and Mailbox shopping and dining destination, with a luxury Harvey Nichols department store.
