Castles, Historic Homes & Gardens

Stokesay Castle, Shropshire

The heart of England is historic and romantic as can be, delivering its rich tapestry of travel experiences against a backdrop of castles, thatched cottages, pubs, centuries-old towns and magical countryside.

History is lovingly preserved in the vast network of castles, manor houses, historic homes (large and small) and gardens, either privately owned or cared for by the National Trust or English Heritage.

Private gardens

The National Open Garden Scheme (NGS) is a register of private gardens to visit in England and Wales, listing some 3,600 gardens from grand to tiny, plus community gardens and allotments. Via admissions and tea and cakes, the scheme raises money for health and nursing charities.
