Stratford-upon-Avon
Steeped in Tudor history thanks to its famous son, William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon is a lively market town that’s fun to visit, even if you’re not a Shakespeare fan. It’s thanks to him that so many buildings and areas have been preserved, so it’s a great place to see thatched and half-timbered houses dating from the 16th century, including Shakespeare’s Birthplace, other family homes and his schoolroom.
See a play at the RSC Stratford, go boating on the River Avon, enjoy shopping and dining – the town centre is compact, so easy to walk around.
