Head to the lovely market towns – Shrewsbury, the county town with Tudor streetscape and a medieval red brick castle. Nearby, UNESCO World Heritage listed Ironbridge, is hailed as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Now it’s a place to visit to see the famous Iron Bridge and Tollhouse designed by Thomas Telford and other museums including the Enginuity hands-on museum, great for kids. Craft shops, artisan breweries and cafes along the River Severn complete the scene.
Drive through gorgeous countryside with fields of hops in summer; travel the Welsh border country visiting Clun Castle. Explore the the glorious Shropshire Hills with the Long Mynd and the atmospheric Stiperstones outcrop steeped in legend on the Shropshire Way. Visit the town of Church Stretton at the foot of the hills, Stokesay Castle and the foodie capital Ludlow with castle ruins, narrow streets, markets, speciality food outlets and restaurants galore.
