Wroxeter Roman City

Baths for 5000

Once a fortress, Wroxeter (aka Viroconium) became the fourth largest Roman town in Britain with around 5000 inhabitants. The Romans loved to bathe so it isn’t surprising that there’s an impressive municipal bath complex dating back to the 2nd century.

The ‘new’ Roman townhouse was constructed as a joint venture between English Heritage and Channel 4 for a series called ‘Rome Wasn’t Built In a Day’.
