Upton-upon-Severn
Inviting port of call
Upton was once a busy port on the River Severn and is a big hit with canal boat users and pleasure boat cruisers as it has its own marina. Blues music fans converge on Upton in July for the annual Blues Festival.
In town, the tall tower is the known as the ‘Pepperpot’, a medieval tower unusually topped by a cupola instead of a spire. Not just a pretty face, it is the home of the Heritage Centre where you can find out about Upton’s history, especially in the Civil War. Upton had (and has) the only bridge across the Severn for some distance.
Explore the riverside, call into one of the many pubs and browse in shops such as the Map Shop, the best place around for maps, guides and specialist local maps. Nearby, visit Clive’s Fruit Farm shop and the beautiful Malvern Hills.
